Ok! I knew there was a good game in the box. Had a blast with this over the weekend and now considering the extensions!
The soft plastic figures are a bit too bendy for my tastes though and it's unlikely I'll go the extra mile to paint them. Still, they work for the game and the overall quality of components is very good. John Howe's artwork is excellent.
I've had this game for years but haven't yet had the opportunity to play it. One day...
ReplyDeleteYes, I've had my copy over a year. I made the mistake of trying to play it with the kids without fully reading the rules. Big mistake! The rules are not overly complicated, but there are a few of them. I managed to put the kids off first time. With Kyle a bit older I decided to try again - after reading the rules through more carefully. First couple of games on Saturday were practice sessions and we made a few mistakes. But today's game was a blinder! Quite a lot of depth to the game, especially in how the event cards awe played. Definitely recommend you give it a go (but read the rules through a couple of times first)...
DeleteExcellent. I think with this game it would serve no purpose to paint them. Have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteCheers! Must admit that I'm not too fussed about painting board game figures, especially bendy plastic ones.
DeleteI've got the old SPI "War of the Ring" game and when I saw your title I assumed that you intended to talk about that. But this is something quite different...
ReplyDeleteThis is the second edition game based on Lords of the Rings. It gets very good reviews on Board Game Geek etc. Since I messed up our first go with it back in 2013, I was determined to have a better grasp of the rules before playing again with Kyle. It was definitely worth the effort.
